Started painting the “stable door” in my kitchen. Taken me two days including the ball ache of sanding and masking it and I haven’t even painted the other side yet. Massive nause but make hay while the sun shines and all that malarkey.
Note how the screw meant to sheer, didn't, allowing the plastic base to break. However, apart from relatively minor abrasions the mirrors are otherwise good. If I can repair that I'll be happy. However I don't see that I can repair the nose cone. At least there aren't any decals on it. The seat surround - whatever you call it - is fairly beat up. It seems sacrilegious - like thinking the SS looked cool on the back of the breakdown truck - but it feels good to be back taking bikes apart again.
Not sure if it's any help @Wasted Time Lord but this is how I rebuilt one of my 999 Mirror bodies. From the top of page 13. https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/project-999.87890/page-13 Then from post #249
What else have I done today? I've just ordered a nose cone off eBay for a couple of hundred. It looks undamaged and in generally good nick. They're available new for well over £600. Ha! I'd have a new rear flasher ordered - can't find the lens alone - for under £30, but can't find my bike-parts-online password and they don't seem to want to let me make a new account, or provide a means of password recovery. So I'm waiting for them to get back to me. The seat fairing is an appalling price and all used ones are in at least as bad a state as mine. Chinese ones only show the mono version. So looks like I'll be refinishing the one I've got. Now to study Nasher's method for the mirror.
I appreciate the offer, but I can't see it being a problem. Unless I'm being naive, which I wouldn't rule out.
Just successfully ordered said rear flasher unit. This morning I got the password reset link. I can only assume it was on account of enabling the 'chat' javascript I didn't enable last night because I wasn't intending to interact with some robot. Maybe I had to enable a French cat. So, new flasher on the way. £34, ultimately. Thanks again, mate.
Useful For similar repairs i've used superglue and baking powder, be warned it cures instantly. There is also Cotton
Cleaned the pond filter and put an air pump/stone in to keep my son (who buggered off to walk the dog with his mum leaving me elbow deep in shit) happy.
